Frequently Asked Questions about sexual health

Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a compilation of many frequent questions we receive. If you have a question that is not answered here, please contact us, and we’ll be happy to answer it!

Q: How much do your pregnancy tests cost?

A: There are no charges for our pregnancy tests or for any of our services.

Q: How early do pregnancy symptoms start?

A: For some women, pregnancy symptoms may start as early as three weeks after the first day of your last menstrual period. Other women may not realize they might be pregnant until they miss their regular menstrual cycle and other symptoms develop over the following few weeks. Yet others may have no symptoms at all. Learn more about pregnancy symptoms.

Q: What type of pregnancy test do you provide and how accurate is it?

A: We provide lab-quality urine tests that are 99 percent accurate.

Q: How early can your pregnancy tests detect a pregnancy?

A: The pregnancy test used by our center turns positive as early as seven days after the missed menstrual period.

Q: I had sex last night and I think the condom broke. Can I come in today for a pregnancy test?

A: The hormones in your body that result in a positive pregnancy test can’t be detected until seven to ten days after fertilization. It is best to wait until you have missed a period.

Q: When will I get the results?

A: You will receive the results during your pregnancy test appointment.

Q: How long does a pregnancy test appointment last?

A: We provide a 45-minute appointment. This helps us get to know you, answer your questions, and determine how to best meet your needs.

Q: What do I do if my pregnancy test is positive and I don't have insurance?

A: Obria Clinics PNW will provide you with a free ultrasound appointment (to qualified clients), a positive pregnancy test verification form, and a referral to area prenatal care providers who will assist you in obtaining insurance coverage for your pregnancy.

Q: Do you offer sonograms?

A: At Obria Clinics PNW, we perform FREE limited obstetrical ultrasounds in order to:

Confirm pregnancy Detect fetal heart beat Determine fetal age Determine estimated due date Determine if it’s a multiple birth pregnancy (twins, triplets, etc.) Determine the location of the pregnancy (intrauterine/ectopic)

The ultrasound examination is not intended to determine the sex of your baby, nor will Obria Clinics PNW diagnose any potential abnormalities and/or problems. We won’t perform an ultrasound exam if you are already under the care of an OB/GYN for this pregnancy.

Q: I am undecided about what to do if I am pregnant. What can you do to help me?

A: We are committed to sharing evidence-based medical education on abortion, adoption, and parenting. We know that every woman’s situation is different, and you deserve to know all of the facts so that you can make an informed decision. We do not perform nor refer for abortion.

Q: Can I come in for a free ultrasound to find out the sex of my baby?

A: The ultrasounds that we offer are used to assess viability and gestational age after a positive pregnancy test. Ultrasounds to determine the sex of your baby can be obtained through your medical provider.

Q: What do I need to do to prepare for an ultrasound appointment?

A: We ask that you drink at least 16 ounces of liquid prior to arriving for your ultrasound appointment, as images appear better if you have a full bladder.

Q: What can I do if my boyfriend is pressuring me to have an abortion?

A: Your interests and his interests may be very different with regard to your pregnancy outcome. You have the right to make your own informed decision. Contact us for the information you need to make your decision. Give yourself enough time to get all the facts. Your decision will have a lifelong impact. Feel free to invite your boyfriend to talk with us as well.

Q: What can I do if my girlfriend wants an abortion and I don’t?

A: You need to encourage her to get all the facts before she makes a decision that will have a lifelong impact. Ask her to contact us to discuss all of her options before she makes her decision.

Q: Can anyone make me have an abortion?

A: No. It is against the law for anyone — including your parents, husband, or boyfriend — to force you to have an abortion.

Q: How much would an abortion cost me?

A: You could be charged a few hundred dollars up to several thousand dollars, depending on the type of abortion procedure, type of anesthesia, stage of pregnancy, your insurance coverage, and geographical area. Be wary of abortion providers who try to collect nonrefundable fees before they offer counseling, or those who don’t encourage you to ask questions and fully understand the risks involved.

Q: What if I’ve already had an abortion?

A: If you recently had an abortion, follow the instructions of your doctor and don’t hesitate to contact him/her if you have pain, nausea, fever or bleeding or if your symptoms are getting worse, not better. It’s also important to tune in to how you are feeling emotionally. Many women report feeling relieved immediately after an abortion, but some experience difficulties later, sometimes years after an abortion. If you are feeling depressed, develop an eating disorder, abuse alcohol or drugs, have sexual problems, or even flashbacks, you need to acknowledge your feelings and seek help. Our center has specially trained abortion recovery facilitators who are here to help you move forward in the healing process.

Q: If I am under 18, can I get a pregnancy test or ultrasound without my parents’ permission or presence?

A: Yes, but we encourage younger clients to seek advice from parents or trusted adults to help them through this emotional and challenging time.

Q: Can I get birth control or the morning after pill at Obria Clinics PNW?

A: We don’t provide or refer for contraceptives (birth control) or the morning after pill. If you have questions or concerns regarding these medications, please contact your medical provider.

Q: What are your hours?

A: Our Sequim Center at 640 North Sequim Avenue is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 10am-4pm. Our Port Angeles Center at 824-A East 8th Street is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 10am-4pm.

Please bring a photo ID (Driver’s license or school ID) when you come for your appointment.

Q: Can I walk in or do I need an appointment?

A: You can walk in, though, it is usually best to schedule an appointment. We want to make sure we have someone available to meet with you.

Q: I have a job. Do you have any appointment times convenient for me?

A: Yes, we have a variety of morning and afternoon appointments available. Just give us a call and we’ll work with you to schedule a time that’s convenient for you.

Q: I don’t have insurance. What do I do?

A: During your pregnancy test appointment, we can offer referrals for you and provide you with a Proof of Positive Pregnancy Test form to submit to medical care providers.

Q: Is this a medical clinic?

A: Yes, we provide selected medical services related to pregnancy.

Q: Will you tell anyone about my visit to your center?

A: No. We have a strict confidentiality policy, and will not tell anyone that you visited us unless required to do so by law (discovery of abuse or neglect of a minor).

Q: Can I bring a friend or family member?

A: Yes.  We may ask to speak to you alone during portions of your visit, but you are welcome to bring others with you.  Keep in mind that space is limited in our waiting area, counseling rooms, and ultrasound room.

Q: I don’t live close to your center. How can I find a pregnancy center near me?

A: Go to https://helpinyourarea.com/washington/ for information on other pregnancy centers in Washington state. Additionally, Obria Clinics PNW Mobile Medical Center partners with pregnancy resource centers in various communities in Western Washington and may serve the area where you live.
